GHAZNI - After the release of its workers, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Saturday resumed its operation in the capital of southern Ghazni province.
The five ICRC staffers, who had been abducted by unidentified gunmen on the outskirts of Ghazni City three days back, were set free yesterday (Friday).
ICRC spokesman Ahmad Ramin Ayaz told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We take a lot of care of our workers. But we vehemently deny the payment of ransom or any other deal for their release.”
He said the humanitarian organisations had suspended its operations in Ghazni City and all districts of the restive province in reaction to the kidnappings.
Ayaz added: “We will resume activities at the district level only when all parties to the conflict give us fresh guarantees of our staff security.”
According to the ICRC spokesman, two of the kidnapped workers hailed from central Bamyan province and three from Ghazni. He stressed respect for ICRC operations across Afghanistan.  (Pajhwok)
