Enemies and their Supporters Dreamt to Topple Down Government: Abdullah

KABUL - The Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah said the enemies of Afghanistan and their supporters dreamt to topple down the government by ramping up insurgency activities.
In his remarks during a ceremony to introduce the new intelligence and minister of defense picks in Kabul, Abdullah said the enemies of Afghanistan do not want the safety of Afghanistan even for one day.
Reiterating the government’s definition of enemy, Abdullah said anyone picking arms to fight the Afghan government and forces is the enemy of the Afghan people.
However, he said the government keep its arms open for the militants laying down their arms and joining peace process.
Regarding the new picks for National Directorate of Security and Ministry of Defense, Abdullah said Masoom Stanikzai is an active and committed official.
Abdullah further added that the defense minister-designate Gen. Abdullah Khan is a proficient defense official who has spent much of time during his service in the battle field.
He said Gen. Abdullah Khan has good knowledge regarding the security situation of Afghanistan.
Abdullah also hailed the Afghan security forces for their services and devotion for defending the country against the enemies.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani appointed Mohammad Masoom Stanikzai as the acting Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS) Chief by issuing a decree last week.
Masoom Stanikzai was the last nominee for the Ministry of Defense who was rejected by the Afghan lawmakers following his introduction to the parliament house.
The National Directorate of Security, the key intelligence agency of the country got an acting chief following the resignation of Rahmatullah Nabil last year. (KP)
