18 Bamyan Education Officials Jailed, Fined

BAMYAN CITY - The urban court of central Bamyan province on Wednesday sentenced 18 education officials from three to six years in jail and fined them over embezzling pensioners’ salaries amounting to millions of afghanis.
The officials had been accused of misusing authority and embezzling tens of millions of afghanis belonging to retired teachers. The accused were introduced to the attorney’s office in January. The urban court sentenced a number of the accused to jail terms and fined others.
Based on the court’s verdict, former Bamyan education director Mohammad Reza Ada was sentenced to six years in jail and fined 8.9 million afghanis and former Bamyan and current Daikundi education director Mohammad Ali Wasiq was jailed for three years and fined 3.3 million afghanis.
The education officer of Shibar district of Bamyan, Sultan, was sentenced to six years in jail and fined 7.7 million afghanis.
Hussain Ali, education manager of Waras district, was sentenced to three years in jail and fined 3.9 million afghanis, Ghulam Hussain Sharifi, deputy Bamyan education director was fined 40,0000 afghanis fine.
Mir Hussain, human rights manager, was jailed for two months, Bismillah, an education officer, was fined 10,000 afghanis and Mohammad Sharif, another officer, was sentenced to seven months in jail.
Bamyan Governor Mohammad Tahir Zuhair told Pajhwok Afghan News his administration was decisively fighting corruption and the court ruling would be carefully implemented.
