Ghani in Helmand Praises Security Forces’ Sacrifices, Gains

LASHKARGAH - President Ashraf Ghani said on Monday those who believed Afghanistan was in crisis should think twice before saying this because the Afghan forces would protect their motherland at any cost.
The president expressed these views during his address to the commanders and forces of the Afghan National Army’s 215 Maiwand Military Corps.
Earlier, the president arrived in Helmand to closely assess the security situation and other issues of the restive province.
Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Ghani landed early in the morning on the Maiwand Corps Base in Washir district.
He said government officials, Cabinet members and lawmakers accompanied the president on the trip.
The president comes to Helmand when clashes in various parts of the troubled province are ongoing between security forces and Taliban militants, who are in control of several towns.
“We are the real heirs of the religion of Islam because it were us who strived for peace day and night,” he said.
The president said as the commander in chief of the armed forces it was his duty to defend the rights of the dead and injured security personnel.
Ghani congratulated the nation on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan and wished their worship would be accepted by Allah and help establish peace and stability in the country.(Pajhwok)
