KABUL - At least 200 impoverished children on Monday received cash and suits from a national civil society institute in central capital Kabul.
Ghulam Ali Parvez, youth affairs in-charge at Afghanistan Civil Society Forum (ACSF), told Pajhwok Afghan News the children were identified and introduced to ACSF. He said each of the 200 children received 300afs cash and a suit of clothes.
ACSF was making all out efforts to help needed children and the forum had asked other institutes to follow suit, he added.
He said ACSF since Dec, 2015 had assisted 1200 children in six phases, with each phase involving 200 children. The assistance packages included clothes, stationery and toys for children in Kabul and northern Balkh province, he said.   
Mohammad Sharif Sharafat, ACSF litigation sector in-charge, expressed concern over children’s situation in Afghanistan and said a considerable number of children were busy doing hard labour and were even subjected to violence.  
He said the poor state of Afghan children showed they should be supported deeply to have a bright future.
Mariam, 9, one of the children who received the aid, said she sold paper-handkerchiefs every day and earned 50 to 100 afghanis.
The 4th grade student at Char Qala School in Wazirabad area of Kabul said her father was no more and she was selling facial tissues to support her mother and two sisters and also went to school.  
Mariam asked the government to support her family and enable her to continue her and her two sisters’ education.
“I want to become a police officer in future and ensure security in our country because if war exists we can’t work, we can’t live a comfortable life and children are deprived of education, thus their future is ruined.”(Pajhwok)
