There are No Good and Bad Terrorists: Ghani

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani has cautioned there are no good and bad terrorists, saying the countries making such distinctions will pay a heavy price.
Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tashkent, Ghani called terrorism and extremism the fifth wave of political violence that threatened cooperation and cultural relations among regional countries.
“If we don’t address this problem, we would not succeed,” he said, adding a decisive approach was needed to get rid of the political violence, which could damage anyone and leave a negative impact on economies and security.
“Our biggest joint project is to revive the Silk Route; we consider Afghanistan an intersection for connecting Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East. We welcome steps for the revival of the Silk Road,” he added.
The president noted an increase in regional cooperation after the previous SCO summit, boosting hope for the future. He believed greater links among member countries would help stability and prosperity.
Ghani said war in Afghanistan was not an internal issue. The agenda of terrorist groups was to disrupt regional cooperation and those who differentiated between extremists would pay the price, he warned.
“I invite all SCO members to jointly identify Afghanistan’s problems and create intelligence, security and political consensus on how to resolve them,” the president concluded.(Pajhwok)
