Russian Wants to Cooperate with NATO on Afghanistan

KABUL - Russia's permanent envoy to NATO Alexander Grushko has said Moscow was ready to cooperate with NATO on Afghanistan, but would not bend to Brussels, a media report said on Friday.
According to sputnik.com the Russian diplomat said his country was ready to cooperate with NATO on Afghanistan, but the ball was in the alliance's court.
“We are ready to continue such cooperation. But NATO made a decision [to cease cooperation]…these issues are never off the agenda, but we are not going to try and persuade anyone. And, of course, NATO countries bear the primary responsibility for such decisions. If they reconsider, that would serve our mutual interests," Grushko siad.
Moscow supported the US and NATO forces military intervention in Afghanistan back in 2001 to eliminate the Taliban regime which was considered to be based on extremist ideology and was frontline threat to Russia, but differenced had been emerged on the way the west fought the war on terrorism.
Moscow also criticised the west for being failed to eliminate poppy cultivation and smuggling of drugs from the war-torn country.(Pajhwok)
