KABUL - Some students of private universities in Kabul on Saturday demanded the government increase security for educational institutes and also asked militants not to target such facilities.
The demand from privately-run higher education institutes comes three days after a brazen gun and bomb attack left 13 dead and scores of others wounded at the American University of Afghanistan in Darul Aman area of Kabul.
Mohammad Karim Mohammadi, a student at Khatmun Nabieen Private University, referring to Wednesday’s attack on the American University said: “Getting education is compulsory on everyone. What is the fault of students? The insurgents should not target universities.”
He demanded the rebel forces should not be a hurdle to education and let the youth get modern education so they could rebuild the country.
Baktash Haidari, who studies at Kateb Private University, said targeting educational institutes was violation of human rights and should not be part of the conflict.
“University is where students learn subjects comfortably, but after the attack on the American University everyone is worried and fear another attack on another university,” he said.
Fawad Ahmad Rashidi, a student of Khwarizmi University, said attacking educational institutes was a serious war crime.
He said those who attacked the American University should know they only won hatred and a bad name among common people and they should not attack more such places with directives from outsiders.
They demanded the government ensure security and safety of educational institutes and prevent such incidents in future.(Pajhwok)
