Multi-Million Dollars Housing Scheme Inaugurated

KABUL - President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Friday inaugurated a multimillion dollars housing project in Kabul, saying his administration would honour the promises held out to the masses.
Minister of Urban Development and Housing Syed Sadat Mansoor Naderi and other senior officials attended the inaugural ceremony for Khwaja Rawash housing scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, President Ghani said years of hard work and 6.3 billion afghanis ($94.3 million) had gone into the housing scheme.
With the inauguration of the project, the president said, his government had won public confidence in its ability to resolve people’s problems.
The government would have been unable to generated the addition 700 million afs in the absence of a 22 percent increase in the revenue collected by the Ministry of Finance.
Minister Naderi identified multiple questionable contracts, the absence of budgeting, accountability, technical study flaws and scarcity of funds as main hurdles to the scheme.
“A year ago, in addition to a host of other problems, the project was faced with a budget deficit of 1.200 billion afs,” the minister said, adding the Finance Ministry provided the required funds in line with presidential orders. 
He said the project had been constructed over an area of 40 hectares and work on it was launched in mid-2012. The housing scheme has 78 residential blocks and 2,014 apartments.(Pajhwok)
