Ghani, Abdullah form Joint Committee to Overcome Rift

KABUL - Reports indicate that President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah have formed a joint committee in a bid to overcome the political rift between the two leaders.‎
According to reports, the committee is working on a strategy based on which the political discord over electoral reforms, the roll out of electronic National Identity Cards, the implementation of the amendment to the Constitution and other issues will be resolved.
"The committee will work to find ways to help implement the political agreement, the work of the committee will take some time," said Jawed Faisal, deputy spokesman for Abdullah.
However, there are a number of concerns that the rift between the two leaders is far from being resolved.
"The rift [between government leaders] will create a crisis in the country. The government leaders should not sacrifice the public demands and interests for their own benefits ," said Selab Waziri, a political commentator.
Meanwhile, a number of political parties said the chances of the two leaders overcoming their issues is slim and they reiterated calls to Ghani and Abdullah not to remain careless about this matter.
"The Jamiat-e-Islami party of Afghanistan is mentioning the implementation of the political agreement and the fulfillment of the commitments of the government leaders. If the commitments are not implemented, we will announce our stance in this aspect," said Waqif Hakimi, spokesman for Jamiat-e-Islami Party. (Tolonews)
