KABUL - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Wednesday said that massive return of Afghan refugees from Afghanistan's neighboring countries as well as from European states will cause humanitarian crisis.
The UNHCR urged the European countries to assess the Afghan refugee's cases separately and then decide whether to send them back or to keep them.
"We are concerned about the refugees' situation, especially that winter is near and returning more refugees may cause humanitarian crisis," said Nader Farhad, spokesman for the UNHCR.
Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said European countries have warned that if Afghan government does not start accepting the return efugees, they will stop their aid to Afghanistan.
"European countries asked us that whether you accept our aid for your refugees or for your development projects. Which one do you accept? And told us that we cannot support both development projects and refugees," said Foreign Affairs Minister Salahuddin Rabbani.
"MPs as the peoples' representatives will decide wisely and will consider national interests," said Sayed Husain Alemi Balkhi, Minister of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Sakhi Azam, head of a touristic company, said: "Security threats, poor economy and more importantly unemployment are the reasons that push hundreds Afghan to leave the country on a daily basis." (Tolonews)
