Noor-Ghani Talks to Yield Results Soon: Jamiat Leader

MAZAR-I-SHARIF - The ongoing talks between President Ashraf Ghani and Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor were going in right direction and would yield results soon, the Jamiat-i-Islami Afghanistan party said on Monday.
The party’s deputy head, Zabihullah Firat, said Noor had entered talks with the president with full consent of the party and the talks would soon come to a logical conclusion.
He said Noor was holding talks with Ghani to achieve objectives which Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah failed to get.
Noor has thanked Naqibi for supporting his talks with President Ghani. “The Jamiat’s executive council has decided to fully support Balkh Governor Atta Mohammad Noor talks with President Ghani. In this process, Noor has full support of the party and this backing would continue until the talks come to a logical conclusion,” wrote Naqibi on his Facebook page.
Behind the scenes talks between Ghani and Noor have been ongoing over the past few days amid speculation that Noor would resign as Balkh governor and would be given a key post in Kabul.
On the other hand, differences have emerged in the Jamiat party over the ongoing talks between Ghani and Noor.
The Balkh governor had previously criticized Abdullah for his failure to work for development of the party and its workers.
Dr. Mohammad Afzal Hadid, a member of the provincial council of Balkh province, and a senior Jaimiat member, said Abdullah failed to serve the party the way he was expected.
He said Noor entered direct talks with President Ghani after Abdullah failed to achieve the party’s objectives. (Pajhwok)
