Requests for Citizenship Renunciation Decrease: MoJ

KABUL -The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on Sunday said requests for cancellation of Afghanistan citizenship have decreased since the national unity government’s coming into power.
A MoJ statement to Pajhwok Afghan News said there had been fewer requests for citizenship cancellation before 2013, but around 1000 Afghans renounced their citizenship between 2013 and 2015.
The ministry added around 800 people requested to relinquishing their citizenship after the national unity government’s coming into power, showing a 20 percent decrease.
The MoJ said 102 foreigners had also requested for Afghanistan citizenship betweeb 2006 and 2015.
Most renunciation requests came from Afghans living in Iran. People canceled their citizenship after they were denied residence over dual citizenship, the statement said.
Most such requests were made by Afghans living in neighboring countries. One of the major reasons behind requests for cancelling citizenship by Afghans was their marriages with foreign women.(Pajhwok)
