MoPH Assures People MoAB Bomb was Not Toxic

KABUL - The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Sunday said that preliminary assessments show that the recent use of a GBU-43, a Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), also known as the ‘Mother of All Bombs, by the U.S military in Achin has had no impact on people’s health in the district.
Preliminary assessments by the ministry of public health shows that the bomb has not affected the health of residents in Achin, said Wahid Majroh, head of the international relations department of the ministry of public health.
The ministry of health says that no one should make uninformed guesses about side-effects of the bomb.
“So far there is no evidence to show that the bombing had a negative impact on people’s health, there is a need to be patient instead of making premature judgments and lets wait for the final results of assessments,” said Majroh.
On Thursday, the United States dropped the “mother of all bombs”- the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the American arsenal - on a Daesh tunnel complex in Achin district in the eastern province of Nangarhar.
The bombing sparked mixed reaction both in Afghanistan and around the world.
Many people welcomed the move but some denounced the U.S’s action including former Afghan president Hamid Karzai.
On Saturday, Karzai lashed out at government and the U.S over Thursday night’s bombing.
Karzai said he did not recognize the government, and has decided to work to get rid of America in Afghanistan.
"Yesterday it was the third time that I decided to free Afghanistan (first time from Russia, second time from Pakistan and now) from America's incursion, operation and violation,” said Karzai on Saturday.
But, in the past Karzai backed the US in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan.
“The American people have a feeling for Afghanistan and we are grateful of that. The U.S government has supported Afghanistan. If someone calls me a puppet for my appreciation, then let them call me the puppet. The reality is that if there was no support from the United States, Afghanistan would have been invaded by neighboring (countries) and Al-Qaeda network,” Karzai said a while back.
Meanwhile a number of Afghans hit back at Karzai over his comments.
“These contradictory remarks are not for the people; these remarks are made for reaching power and for personal motives,” said a resident of Kabul, Mir Ahmad Qane.
At the same time, some residents in the southern province of Helmand also questioned Karzai’s stance toward the U.S, and asked why Karzai has not taken a stance against the Taliban, who are taking the lives of Afghans on a daily basis.
“Why has he (Karzai) not taken such a position over the past thirteen years and why is he not talking about the people killed in Helmand and other places?” asked a resident of Helmand, Amanullah.
Meanwhile a member of the Hambastagi party, Maryam said: “Our people are killed on a daily basis because of the crimes of the Americans.”
Achin is said to be one of the main hubs for Daesh in Afghanistan.
According to media reports, over 90 Daesh operatives were killed during Thursday’s bombing. (Tolonews)
