Ashgabat Eyes to Resolve Situation in Afghanistan Peacefully

KABUL - Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is on a visit to Kazakhstan, said that the situation in Afghanistan can be resolved only peacefully, the Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary State News Agency reports Wednesday.
During the talks with Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev, President Berdimuhamedov stressed that it is necessary to create effective political and diplomatic mechanisms involving international organizations, especially the UN, to normalize the situation in Afghanistan.
President Berdimuhamedov added that Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are ready to render the necessary assistance to the world community to rapidly normalize the situation in Afghanistan and restore the country’s economy and social sphere.
Turkmenistan borders with Afghanistan.
Turkmenistan is also lobbying the implementation of a number of infrastructure regional projects involving Afghanistan. In particular, Turkmenistan is working on the implementation of such projects through Afghanistan, as the construction of a railway line to Tajikistan and a gas pipeline to Pakistan and India.
Moreover, Turkmenistan supplies electricity and liquefied gas on preferential terms to neighboring Afghanistan. (Trend)
