KABUL - The Office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on Thursday said the Taliban were a terrorist group and no country has the right to recognise them as a political movement.
Mujeeb Rahman Rahimi, CEO office spokesperson, told a press conference here that recognizing the Taliban or developing relations with the insurgents was unacceptable to the Afghan government.
Rahimi said the Taliban were a criminal group and the main cause of the Afghanistan conflict.
“No country or movement should help the Taliban for their subversive activities instead they should help Afghanistan suppress and destroy this terrorist group.”
The CEO spokesman asked Pakistan to stop supporting terrorists and revise it policy and work jointly with regional countries to eliminate and eradicate terror groups.
Rahimi called on the Taliban to join the peace process and take part in preserving the past gains of the government.
He said Russia had not recognized the Taliban officially and Russia’s contact with the group resulted from Moscow’s concern over the security situation in Afghanistan.
On media people’s complaints about no access to the site where the US military last week dropped the mother of all bomb (MOAB) in Nangarhar, Rahimi said after the site was assessed and safety of journalists was assured, the media men would be allowed access.
According to Rahimi, the use of MOAB was a clear message to regional countries to stop supporting and harboring terrorists. (Pajhwok)
