Assault on ANA Base in Balkh to be Avenged: Atmar

KABUL - National Security Advisor (NSA) Mohammad Hanif Atmar has vowed to revenge for the attack on the Shaheen Military Corps in northern Balkh province, his office said on Sunday.
As many as 135 soldiers were killed and 60 others wounded in Friday’s attack on military facility in Mazar-i-Sharif. As usual, the Taliban moved swiftly to claim the assault, which has drawn strong denunciation.
“Afghan security forces will take revenge on the Taliban for the barbaric attack,” the NSA was quoted as saying in a statement from his office. He said individuals in security forces’ ranks, who committed negligence or helped the enemy, would be held accountable under the country law.
Atmar also met Iranian National Security Council Secretary Ali Shakhani, who convoyed condolences over the attack. On the behalf of the Iranian government and people, Shahkhani assured Atmar of full support and stressed joint efforts to eradicate terrorism.  (Pajhwok)
