Ghani under Pressure to Bring Security Reforms, Review Policies

KABUL - Council for Protection and Stability of Afghanistan said they do not think it would be wise to fire security chiefs, but instead reforms need to be brought.
Former president and member of the Council for the Protection and Stability of Afghanistan, Sibghatullah Mujadidi, on Sunday warned government could collapse unless President Ashraf Ghani brings reforms to his policies.
This comes just 10 days after a string of deadly attacks in the nation’s capital Kabul.
Mujadidi also voiced support for the protestors calling for reforms in the country, but suggested they should end their demonstration.
“With consideration of the incidents which happened and in view of the situation in Afghanistan, we don’t think that it would be appropriate to fire top government officials from the job. We call on government to think about systematic reforms, government should review its policies when it comes to the affairs of the people, we are against their current policy, government is committing major mistakes in its policies and it should come to an end, otherwise, the time will come for the collapse of the government,” said Mujadidi
“Our position has remained clear, there is a need for a consensus between the Jihadi personalities and the political elites to overcome the issues of cooperation with the government,” said Sayed Hamid Gailani, a member of the Council for the Protection and Stability of Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, a new political party which was launched on Sunday, called Hizb-e-Junbesh-e-Navin Afghanistan, also rallied for systematic reforms to be put in place in security institutions.
Led by Mohammad Alam Saee, Hizb-e-Junbesh-e-Navin Afghanistan party was formed by a number of former Junbish-e Milli party members – the party led by First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum.
Dostum’s main rival Ahmad Eshchi is also a member of the newly established party.
Party members called on government to create a national consensus on the issues currently facing the nation.
“The government should implement systematic reforms in the security institutions on the basis of merit and away from all sorts of nepotism and regardless of ethnicity and political affiliations, but on the basis of social justice and qualification,” said Saee.
“Hizb-e-Junbesh-e-Navin party of Afghanistan has announced its existence to institutionalize the culture of democracy, pluralism and to combat all types of political dictatorship, injustice, discrimination. The party will work to promote national unity and solidarity in the country,” said Mohammad Alim Kohkan, secretary of Hizb-e-Junbesh-e-Navin party of Afghanistan.
The new party also said it was prepared to mediate between the protestors and the government. (Tolonews)
