7 Convicted of Drug Trafficking

KABUL - Seven individuals were sentenced from six months to 20 years in jail on charges of drug trafficking, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) announced on Monday.
Having defense lawyers to plead their cases, the accused were convicted by an appellant court at the end of an open trial on the basis of evidence, CJTF spokesman, Ahmad Khalid Mowahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Under the relevant law, a convict could move the Supreme Court against the appellate court decision.

Hailing from Farah, Parwan and Helmand provinces, the men were held with more than 721 kilograms of opium and over 115 liters of acids during separate operations by counternarcotics police.

In the first quarter of the current solar year (Mar 22-Jun 21), the court of appeal convicted 183 people on charges of drug trafficking. Four others were acquitted for lack of evidence.
