BSA Has Failed to Deliver Results: Speaker of the House

KABUL - Wolesi Jirga speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said insecurity in Afghanistan is threating the political, economic and social fabric of the country.
Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi on Monday said the only reason Afghanistan signed the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) in 2014 with the U.S was to improve security, but that this has had no effect.
Ibrahimi not only said the signing of the BSA has failed to result in an improved security situation but he also raised concerns over ongoing recruitment processes by Daesh in the northern parts of the country.
Ibrahimi stated that insecurity was threating the political, economic and social make-up of the country.
“Despite this security agreement and the long-term strategic partnership with the United States we have unfortunately not witnessed concrete or visible results,” Ibrahimi said.
Meanwhile a number of MPs criticized the recently signed Afghanistan-Pakistani agreement on joint operations along the Durand Line under the supervision of the U.S.
“Clearance operations along the Durand Line in effect officially recognize the Durand Line and this is treason,” said Razia Mangal, an MP.
MPs also criticized the Dostum issue and questioned the fate of the president’s first deputy General Abdul Rashid Dostum who has been in Turkey for almost two months.
“He [Dostum] must return [to Afghanistan] to prove his innocence and make his position to the nation clear,” said Semen Barakzai, another MP.
Following Ahmad Eshchi’s accusations of kidnapping, torture and sexual assault, on the alleged orders of Dostum, the first vice president was placed under house arrest pending an investigation. However, in May, he left Kabul for Turkey on the pretext of seeking medical help.  (Tolonews)
