Murad to Deliver Development Goal Plans at U.S Summit

KABUL - The minister of economy will deliver Afghanistan’s plans and achievements toward achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals in New York
Ministry of Economy (MoE) on Saturday said Afghanistan’s minister of economy Abdul Sattar Murad is in New York City where he will deliver Afghanistan’s achievements and plans in terms of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that have been set by the United Nations.
The UN conference will be held on July 19 and will be attended by representatives from 190 countries of whom representatives of 40 countries including Afghanistan will deliver their plans and activities toward achieving UN’s SDGs by 2030.
At the last United Nations conference on Sustainable Development Goals, 149 development goals were set and the affected countries have to plan and carry out activities to achieve a number of these goals - dependent on the countries development status and capacity.
Afghanistan in 2015 was committed to implementing and achieving 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations by 2030.
The minister of economy will deliver Afghanistan’s achievements in six development sectors to delegates the New York conference.
“At this conference the progress and the activities that have been carried out toward achieving sustainable development goals by 2030 will be delivered,” MoE spokesman, Suhrab Bahman said.
Meanwhile, a number of economic analysts said first of all government should have an exact idea of the country’s status and then based on the needs of the people implement highly valuable and lucrative plans to achieve the sustainable development goals.
“First we should define Afghanistan’s absolute and relative advantage in four development dimensions that include economy, politics, culture and society and also should specify Afghanistan’s economic roadmap. For instance, when we talk about fighting poverty, we should put it into practice,” economic analyst, Shabir Bashiri said. (TolonewS)
