HIA not to Attend Bonn Conference

HIA not to Attend Bonn Conference

JALALABAD - The Gulbadin Hekmatyar-led Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) on Saturday rejected a media report about its willingness to attend the second Bonn conference.
On September 10, a report said the party was willing to attend the conference, if invited as an independent entity. The report added an HIA delegation was in Kabul for peace talks with the government.

But the party spokesman, Haroon Zarghoon, strongly rejected the report. "We haven't sent any delegation to Kabul," he told Pajhwok Afghan News. Qaribur Rahman Syed, the party representative in

urope, was quoted as saying last week that HIA conditionally ready to attend the moot. He made the statement during a visit to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.

The political and military situation in Afghanistan, peace efforts, future political dispensation and the party's participation in the Bonn conference came up for discussion.

Zarghoon confirmed Qaribur Rahman was a member of HIA's political committee in Europe.

At the conference, scheduled for December 5, the Karzai government will present its future plans, including peace talks with the Taliban and other Afghan fighters.
