 Three-Day Mourning Announced

KABUL - The Cabinet announced on Wednesday a three days national mourning over the killing of former president Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani, with the national flag flying at half-mast.
Rabbani was assassinated on Tuesday evening along with three members of his panel in a suicide attack at his residence in a highly security Wazir Akbar Khan area of the city.
At a special meeting, the Cabinet decided the flag would fly at half-mast across the country and in Afghan embassies and consulates abroad during the three days of mourning.

Information and Culture Minister Sayed Makhdoom Rahin said the Jamiat-i-Islami leader would be laid to rest in the Wazir Akbar Khan graveyard on Friday.

Afghanistan's Ulema Council issued a Fatwa, asking Afghans to hold his funeral in absentia across the country. Condolences will be offered on Saturday.

The Cabinet also decided to set up three commissions, led by the defense minister, to make arrangements for the funeral ceremony, Rahin added.

The security commission is led jointly by the interior minister and 'NDS chief, the protocol commission by the foreign minister and the media commission by the minister of information.
