Iran to Help Afghanistan Uproot Terrorism, Establish Peace: Rouhani

TEHRAN - President Rouhani underlined the need for an all-out campaign against narcotics production and trafficking, and called for extensive international cooperation to eradicate the phenomenon.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani voiced his country's support for eradicating terrorism and establishing peace in Afghanistan.
During the phone talk on Thursday night, the Iranian president said that Tehran is determined to help Kabul to get rid of the terrorist groups and restore stability to that country.
“Sustainable peace and security in Afghanistan is to the benefit of the regional countries, including Iran,” President Rouhani added.
The Afghan president, for his part, extended his sympathies on behalf of Afghan government and people on the sad occasion of devastating earthquake in Western Iran on November 12 which killed 444 Iranians. "The two nations will stand by each other and remain to be brothers."
During the telephone conversation, the two presidents stressed the expansion of mutual cooperation in the fields of railway, trade interactions, and transit of goods.
The Iranian president stressed the importance of the promotion of Tehran-Kabul economic ties.
He added that the inauguration of the Port of Chabahar in Southeastern Iran in the near future and connection of Iran-Afghan railway networks together and later to the International North–South Transport Corridor will enhance trade ties among the regional countries.
The North–South corridor is a 7,200-km-long multi-mode network of ship, rail, and road route which connects India, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe. (FNA)
