Govt. Revenue Up By 28pc in Last 6 Months

KABUL - The government's income increased during the first six month of the current Afghan year that began on March 21, as compared to the corresponding period last year, an official said on Sunday.
In the first six months, official revenue stood at $46 billion (2,218 billion Afghanis), up from $36 billion, a spokesman for the Ministry of Finance, Aziz Shams, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Almost 50pc of income this year came in custom duty and taxes, he said, attributing the hike to better revenue collection, fair tax payments by traders and hard work by the relevant officials.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and Afghan government have set the revenue target at $93 billion for the year. Total collections are expected to reach $100 billion.

Last year, the government's income worked out at almost $80.3 billion, with the government itself financing 63pc of the common budget. The rest was funded with foreign aid.
According to the spokesman, the common budget for the current year is 154 billion afs and the development outlay 74 billion afs.
