KABUL - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Pakistan's ambassador to Afghanistan on Monday over recent artillery shelling into the country's eastern provinces.
Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq was told to ask his government to immediately stop the shelling, a statement from the ministry said.
The Pakistani Army has fired more than 340 rockets into Kunar and Nuristan provinces, causing loss of life and property and displacing hundreds of families.

The Ministry of Defense expressed concerns over the attacks and warned it was ready for a tit-for-tat response if Pakistan did not stop the barrage.

The ambassador was told that continuation of such attacks was beyond the pale for Afghanistan and would strain bilateral relations.

The statement said: "As Afghanistan wants to maintain good neighborly relations with Pakistan, the continuity of attacks will negatively impact the ties. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Pakistan to stop the shelling forthwith."

Sadiq said the shelling was not an intentional act and the loss of life and property was regrettable. He promised he would convey Afghanistan's concerns to his government.
