KABUL - The seven members of the Independent Election Commission voted on Wednesday to elect their new leaders.
Gulajan Abdulbadi Sayyad has been elected as the head of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in a poll on Wednesday that was carried out by the seven member commission, a source told TOLO news.
Sayyad was previously the spokesman for the IEC.
According to the source, WasimaBadghisi has been appointed as the operational deputy of the commission and Maazullah Dawlati as the financial and administrative deputy of the IEC.
The former head of the election commission, Najibullah Ahmadzai, was sacked by President Ashraf Ghani in November.
The commission was one member short until January 13, when Hafizullah Hashemi was appointed as a new member of the IEC.
The commission is preparing for the upcoming parliamentary and district council elections this year.  (Tolonews)
