Iran’s Participation in Confab on Afghanistan is Important: Rassoul

KABUL - The participation of Iran in the international conference on Afghanistan is important and will bring a constructive spirit to the occasion, Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmay Rassoul said when inviting in New York his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi to attend the event, the Iranian Foreign Ministry's official website reported.
Salehi, in turn, noted that the security and prosperity in the region depend on the cooperation among the regional countries.

"Iran is ready to assist neighboring Afghanistan in the establishment of stability, security and tranquility and in the further development of the country," he added.

The International Conference on Afghanistan scheduled to be held in Bonn, Germany, on December 5, 2011, will bring together stakeholders from all over the world to cultivate commitments to help Afghanistan further develop and maintain peace and security, even as foreign military forces are due to withdraw from the country by 2014 and Afghanistan must take over its own security.
