Ghani, Ministers Among  1200 CNIC Applicants

KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 1, 200 people, including high ranking officials, have registered their names to get electronic national identity cards, the Population Registration Department said.
RohullahAhmadzai, the population registration department spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that President Ashraf Ghani, some ministers, governors and other high level government officials were among those applying for the national computerized identity cards (CNICs).
He said one should fill out the ID card form, confirm his/her identity, complet biometric process to get the national ID card and those who had done such process should only wait until the cards were issued.
Ahmadzi ensured that the cards supplying process would start soon as directed by the president but he did not give a date.
Issuing electronic identity cards has been ordered by President Ashraf Ghani a few months back.
The cards’ issuance had to be delayed after CEO Abdullah Abdullah expressed some reservations about the matter.
Abdullah had said the electronic national identity cards were a national issue and needed national consensus. (Pajhwok)
