The Russian president Vladimir Putin said although the Islamic State terror group defeated in Syria, this group still has a significant destructive potential to carry out attacks in various parts of the world.
The Islamic State terror group retains its potential, so there is a need to work out new ways of global cooperation to reinforce the successes achieved in the fight against terrorism, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a welcome address to the participants and guests of the Seventh Moscow Conference on Global Security, which was read out by Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
“In spite of its defeat, this terror group clearly still has significant destructive potential and an ability to promptly change its tactics and carry out attacks in various parts of the world,” Putin said, adding that “other extremist groups also pose a great danger.”
“Under these circumstances, we all should consider new ways of multilateral cooperation, which would make it possible to reinforce the successes achieved in the war on terror and prevent this threat from spreading further,” the Russian leader pointed out. Tass reported.
Representatives from nearly 100 countries, including defense ministers, general staff chiefs, prominent researchers and experts, as well as high-ranking officials from the United Nations and other international organizations have attended the 2018 event. (Agencies)
