KABUL - Power company officials said with the help of local tribal elders, technicians have been able to get to the downed pylon.
Afghanistan’s power utility company Da Afghanistan BreshnaSherkat (DABS) said Sunday its engineers have started work on re-erecting the downed pylon that was blown up by the Taliban in Baghlan province on Friday night.
DABS said it has arranged to get staff into the area following the intervention of local tribal elders.
DABS said it hopes to temporarily connect the power to Kabul until the pylon is fully operational.
However, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Sunday that security forces had conducted an operation in Doshi district of Baghlan province in order to secure the area where the pylon is.
This comes after the Taliban blew up the pylon late Friday night – leaving most of Kabul in the dark, along with some other provinces. 
The pylon affected transmits electricity from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to the capital. 
The Taliban said in a statement that they destroyed the pylon in response to government having cut electricity to some of the areas under their control. 
This is the second time in a month that insurgents have damaged pylons in Baghlan province.
Last month DABS officials said insurgents had destroyed a key power pylon in Kelagai in the province.
This pylon was blown up following the destruction of two other pylons a week earlier by the Taliban in Kunduz. This incident also cut off electricity from Tajikistan to Kabul.
Insurgents said in a statement that they will cut off all electricity to Kabul unless government distributes electricity to areas in their control. (Tolo news)
