Ghani off to Turkey to Participate in OIC Meeting Regarding Jerusalem

KABUL - President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani left for Turkey earlier today to participate in an extraordinary meeting summoned by the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said President Ghani left for Istanbul to participate in the meeting regarding Jerusalem, summoned by the OIC.
This comes as fresh violence erupted among the Israeli soldiers and the Palestinians close to Jerusalem on Tuesday after the opening of the US Embassy.
The Palestinian officials are saying at least 59 Palestinians have been killed during the latest wave of violence.
The officials have also added that the violence mainly involving attacks by the Israeli soldiers also left at least 2,800 people wounded.
The US President Donald Trump last year recognized Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel instructing the Department of State to shift the US embassy from Tel Aviv.
Joining the rest of the Islamic countries, the Afghan government in reaction to President Trump’s decision, had said that it is deeply concerned regarding the move and can understand the concerns of the Afghan people and the Muslims of the world.

A statement issued by ARG Palace stated that the decision has hurt the feelings of the Muslims of the world which could endanger the peace process in the Middle East. (KP)
