5 Injured as Mortar Shell Lands near High Ranking Officials Meeting

GHAZNI CITY - Five people were wounded, including two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers as three mortar shells landed on different government departments in Ghazni City, the provincial capital, on Sunday, an official said.
Defence Minister Maj. Gen. Tariq Shah Bahrami and a delegation from the Interior Ministry and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) are currently in Ghazni to assess the security situation.
The delegation was in a meeting with coordination office members in Ghazni City when a mortar shell landed close to the venue. Media persons were also present in the venue.
Mohammad ArifNoori, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the delegation suffered no casualties but two ANA soldiers were wounded.
He said the second shell fell inside the education department building, injuring two employees and a civilian. The third one hit municipality building causing no casualties, he added.
Taliban claimed responsibility for mortar shelling. Zabihullah Mujahid, the group’s spokesman, said the Taliban targeted the joint meeting of Afghan and US forces in governor house.
He claimed the participants of the meeting suffered casualties during the attack. (Pajhwok)
