Ghani Vows to Accept Decisions of Religious Scholars

JEDDAH - President Ashraf Ghani has assured the international ulema conference in Saudi Arabia of honoring any decision about Afghanistan.
High Peace Council (HPC) Secretary Mohammad Akram Khpalwak presented Ghani’s massage to the conference in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
He quoted the president, as saying that Afghanistan was in a sensitive and complex situation. Amid efforts for permanent peace and stability, there was no legitimacy of conflict, he added.
The president commended the involvement of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Saudi Arabia in the Afghan peace process. He urged them to continue making efforts in this regard.
“Saudi Arabia has always been striving for the wellbeing of the Islamic Ummah. We believe the kingdom will mediate on the issue of the peace process and help bring stability,” Khpalwak added.
Religious scholars had an important role in enforcing peace because innocent people were being killed in the ongoing conflict. Clerics could help discourage erroneous interpretations of Islam by terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan.
“I. as president of Afghanistan, thank all of you for taking part in this conference. I invite you to Afghanistan to see our efforts for restoring peace and putting an end to the conflict,” Ghani said.
The president thanked all participants of the conference and appreciated OIC cooperation. He also praised to the oil-rich kingdom for hosting the event. (Pajhwok)
