Saudi to Help Afghanistan Forge Peace: Ghani

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Monday said Saudi Arabia emerged as Afghanistan’s strategic partner in the peace process, urging Riyadh’s cooperation in ensuring peace in the war-torn country.
The president was talking to members of Afghanistan Ulema Council and the High Peace Council (HPC) during a meeting, according to a statement from the Presidential Palace.
Ghani hailed support and stance of the Saudi King and the secretary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and ulema of Islamic countries regarding Afghanistan’s peace.
He said Saudi Arabia turned into a major strategic partner of Afghanistan in the peace process.
“We want Saudi Arabia to cooperate with us in implementation of peace,” said the president, who added the entire Islamic world supported the Afghanistan peace process.
Ghani said the voices for peace rising from Mecca had a significant impact on the situation in Afghanistan.
Mulavi Qeyamuddin Kashaf, the Afghanistan Ulema Council head, said scholars from the Islamic world welcomed the calls from Afghan Ulema against the conflict, suicide attacks and bombings in Afghanistan.
Mulavi Attaur Rahman Salim, HPC’s deputy head, who was also present in the meeting, briefed the participants about the international ulema conference on Afghanistan peace in Saudi Arabia.
“The Saudi conference informed ulema of the Islamic world about the ongoing situation in Afghanistan,” he said. (Tolo news)
