KABUL - The losing candidates on Sunday staged a protest demonstration in Kabul, asking the government to implement the Special Election Court's decision on last year's parliamentary poll results.
The demonstrators, carrying two coffins inscribed with "law and justice", gathered in Pashtunistan area of the downtown and marched toward the Attorney General's Office (AGO), where they ended the demo by laying the coffins covered in black cloth at the main gate of the AGO.

The Special Election Court, set up to probe allegations of fraud in last year's parliamentary election, ruled that rigging had occurred in 33 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces.

It then disqualified 62 of the 249 sitting MPs, nearly a quarter of the lower house, on the basis of a vote recount.

The protestors, in their slogans demanded the implementation of law, justice and the court's decision.

"We brought caskets of law and justice to the AGO and now it is their duty whether they enforce justice and law or not," Baidar Zazai, a losing candidate from Kabul province, and one of the demonstrators, said.

The aim of the demonstration was to protest the non-implementation of law and justice, Daud Sultanzoi, a candidate from southern Ghazni province, said, adding "We did not stage the demo to find way to Parliament, but to have the law and justice put into effect."

Since the AGO was the only entity, which enforces laws and justice; therefore the coffins were brought there, he said. "If the AGO cannot implement decisions, the governance, law and justice have no meaning then," he maintained.

However, deputy attorney Rahmatullah Nazari told the losing candidates he would convey their message to senior and decision-making officials.
