Media Watchdog Condemns Attack on Ghaznavian TV

KABUL - The Taliban have burned down Ghaznavian Radio-TV Building during the group’s ongoing attack in southern Ghazni province, a statement from the Afghan Journalist Safety Committee (AJSC) said on Sunday.
The staff of Ghaznvian Radio-TV was not present in the office and as a result, the media outlet suffered heavy financial losses, the statement said.
The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee, while denouncing the act by Taliban, that opposes the principle of freedom of expression, acknowledges that the media are civilian institutions and attack on civilian targets is considered war crime. Meanwhile, we ask the UNAMA office to urge the parties involved, especially the Taliban’s political office in Qatar, to stop attacking media houses and journalists stationed in Ghazni because they are independent and not affiliated to warring sides.
Currently, all local media broadcasts are ceased in this province because the majority of media outlets facilities, antennas and transmitters have been burned on the first day of Taliban’s attack. (Pajhwok)
