Pence, Ghani Talk Afghan  Elections & Peace Process

KABUL - US Vice President Mike Pence and President Ashraf Ghani have conferred on issues of mutual interest, including an Afghan-led peace process.
In a phone call late on Tuesday, the two leaders discussed the impact of President Trump’s South Asia strategy over the past year.
A statement from the White House said Pence and Ghani exchanged views on the current security situation in Afghanistan and efforts to initiate a peace process.
Pence reaffirmed the US and international commitment to partner with and support the Afghan government and security forces, according to the readout.
The two sides also discussed the upcoming parliamentary elections that are scheduled for October this year.
They also agreed on the need for political inclusion to enable the long-term stability and effectiveness of the Afghan government. (Pajhwok)
