Honest Pakistan Needed for Afghanistan’s Stability: Ludin

KABUL - Afghan deputy foreign minister on Tuesday said Pakistan's role for regional peace was vital and the country should honestly work for Afghanistan's stability.
"Since the Taliban lack freedom to talk with the Afghan government, therefore the peace process is not successfully moving forward and the Afghan government has changed its policy in this regard," Javed Ludin told the women commission of Parliament.

"Previously, we have also discussed the issue with Pakistan, but the Pakistani authorities are not honest in what they say," he said, adding if Pakistan did not work honestly this time, the Afghan government would ask other countries for help to bring about peace and stability. He did not name other countries.

He said the Afghan government had changed its policy regarding the peace process after the assassination of the High Peace Council chairman, Burhanuddin Rabbani, who was killed in a suicide attack on September 20 at his residence.

When asked by a parliamentarian, Rababa Parwani, that how it could be guaranteed that the Taliban would honestly participate in peace talks, Ludin said it was very difficult to know, but any development in this regard would be made very carefully.

Ludin briefed the lawmakers about the peace process and the second Bonn conference scheduled to be held in Germany on December 5 this year. He said women would also take part in the conference.
