Taliban’s Red Unit Commander Among 12 Killed In Badghis

QALA-I-NAW - A top Taliban commander has been killed along with 11 fighters during a clash with security forces in Badghis province, police claimed on Sunday.
The gunbattle was touched off by an overnight Taliban assault on a security checkpoint in Aab-i-Kamari district, police spokesman Naqibullah Amini told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said Maulvi Nazir Motmain, commander of Taliban’s so-called Red Unit for the province, was among 12 attackers killed in the firefight, the police official said.
Amini added 16 militants were wounded in the engagement, with the security personnel frustrating Taliban’s push to capture the check-post.
The check-post commander was also killed in the attack, which left at least one policeman wounded, the spokesman said. The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident. (Pajhwok)
