Kayani Meets Allen, Pak- Afghan Border  Issues Discussed

RAWALPINDI - General John Allen, Commander International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) called on Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Thursday. The visiting dignitary remained with him for some time and discussed measures aimed at improving cross border coordination and procedures between Pakistan Army and ISAF / Afghan Army at Pak-Afghan border.

According to military sources, meeting lasted for quite a while in which Army Chief and ISAF Commander made it clear that terrorist attacks at the Pak-Afghan border be controlled thick and thin while ways and means must be ensured that such attacks don't occur again.

Sources told that during the course of the meeting, ISAF Commander assured Pakistan Army Chief that all out efforts will be made to curtail terrorist attack at Pak-Afghan border while reservations by Pakistan will be removed in this regard.

Meanwhile, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Lt Gen Khalid Shamim Wyne has called on President Asif Ali Zardari here in Aiwan-e- Sadr Thursday.

They exchanged views on a set of issues including regional security situation , defence requirements of armed forces, war on terror and other matters.

Well placed sources told President Asif Ali Zardari said during the meeting all the defense requirements of armed forces would be met in the prevailing situation. Democratic government would not compromise on defense, security and integrity of the country despite fragile economic situation, President held. National security would be given top priority, he underlined.

Sources told CJCSC apprised the President of operational matters of armed forces and defense requirements. (Agencies)
