Iran, India and Afghanistan need Regional Transit Union

TEHRAN - The managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization has considered it necessary to form a regional transport and transit union between the three countries of Iran, India and Afghanistan to implement Chabahar agreement, saying that this will create the basis for the development of multimodal transit in the region.
Addressing the first meeting of the Trilateral Coordination Council of Iran, India and Afghanistan (Chabahar Agreement) at Parsian Azadi hotel in Tehran on Tuesday, Mohammad Rastadadded said, “Multilateral partnership and investment in the region's transit infrastructure and supporting private sector in order to develop this cooperation, are Iran's most important proposals for the better implementation of Chabahar agreement among the three major countries of the region.'

Rastad noted, “Reducing the rates of multidimensional transport tariffs and harmonizing insurance and banking regulations will help increase the transit and economic development of the three countries in the region.
The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development added that the use of transit capacities of the region along the northern corridor and the facilitation of transit by all countries of the region will be very effective in removing the obstacles and infrastructure problems in the area.

“Secure and easy access to transit routes by all countries in the region and the provision of mutual support services is one of the most important aspects of the implementation of Chabahar agreement,” he said.

“Fortunately, Chabahar agreement has been approved by related legal sources of Iran, India and Afghanistan, and today, with the holding of the first meeting of the deputies of transport ministers, the areas for implementation of the agreement are provided by the three countries.' (IRNA)
