ASHGHABAD - Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to the revival of Afghanistan and the establishment of lasting peace and harmony in the Afghan land, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was quoted by the local media on Saturday.
A governmental meeting has been recently held in Ashgabat.
"Our country will continue supporting the southern neighbor to restore the social and economic infrastructure," the Turkmen leader said.
The Turkmen President focused on the theme of promoting all the international initiatives initiated by Turkmenistan. He stressed the need for further systematic and comprehensive work, aimed at achieving the objectives.
"Turkmenistan, committed to the traditions of friendship and good neighborliness, wants to see Afghanistan as a peaceful and prosperous country," the president said.
Ashgabat announced its initiatives to resolve the Afghan problems on the UN General Assembly sessions.
The first relates to the confidence-building measures, the settlement of the situation in the country diplomatically and the creation an atmosphere of national consensus and reconciliation.
Ashgabat declared about its readiness to give its political space for the international high-level meeting under the UN aegis and intra-Afghan talks on the situation in Afghanistan.
The Turkmen Foreign Ministry held several meetings and consultations on the issue with the foreign ministries of the concerned countries, international organizations and Afghanistan's various state institutions. This idea was fully approved and supported.
The second initiative concerns the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.
The local press reported that the implementation of a large-scale energy project will certainly have a significant impact on the development of the Afghan economy and the political situation in Afghanistan. It will help to attract investments, to resolve important social issues, including the creation of new jobs.
The important agreements on the TAPI gas pipeline construction were signed in Ashgabat in December last year. Turkmenistan also implements the measures to expand the infrastructure. This will eventually enable to increase electric power export volumes to neighboring Afghanistan fivefold.
Moreover, the two countries signed a framework agreement to build a railway line Atamurat-Ymamnazar (Turkmenistan)-Akina-Andhoi (the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan).
The first section of this line, namely the site Atamurat-Ymamnazar-Akina is planned to be built within the project implementation.
The Turkmen side will finance the design and construction.
The site Akina-Andhoi will be laid at the next stage. (Agencies)
