ARG Palace Welcomes Announcement of New Date for Presidential Elections

KABUL - The ARG Presidential Palace welcomed the announcement of a new date for the 2019 presidential elections.
Deputy Presidential spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazawi in a statement said that government’s demand is to hold elections on time but the Independent Election Commission has set July 20th as the new date for presidential elections after consulting with the involved parties, including political parties, potential candidates, international community, election observers, and taking into consideration technical issues and prevention of the mistakes which happened during parliamentary elections.
The statement further added that the government of national unity is prepared to assist with the Independent Election commission to hold elections in the month of July.
The Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) on Sunday announced that the presidential elections would be organized on 20th of July 2019.
IEC Chief Gula Jan Abdul Badi Sayad said the commission would not be able to hold presidential elections on 20th of April due to the existing issues in the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan.
Sayad further added that security, operational, and technical related issues are among the key problems the Independent Election Commission is facing to hold the presidential elections on time.
He said the commission is also facing other issues, including technical and operational problems to hold the elections as scheduled before. (KP)
