Iran-Pakistan Alliance Isolates US in Afghanistan

TEHRAN - Iran-Pakistan strategic policy has been able to isolate the US foreign policy in Afghanistan and take hold of the peace talks in Afghanistan, a magazine for Asia-Pacific wrote on Tuesday.
Washington's hostile policies against Tehran and Islamabad have given rise to the alliance between the two neighboring countries and eventually to a stranded Washington in Afghanistan, Diplomat said.
According to the magazine 'Strained relations with Pakistan and zero channels of communication with Iran isolate US' foreign policy ahead of negotiations with the Taliban and an imminent US troop drawdown.'
By not letting Afghanistan's neighbors to be involved in peace talks with the Taliban, the United States has actually limited its foreign policy and finally agreed to involve Afghanistan's neighbors in the peace talks when the issue was under control of Tehran and Islamabad.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi Pakistan's Minister for Foreign Affairs recently traveled to Iran, Afghanistan, China and Russia to resolve the crisis in Afghanistan and to seek the three countries' support in the peace process in Afghanistan.
In his trip to Tehran, Qureshi met his Iranian counterpart Mohammad-Javad Zarif and the two discussed the importance of stability, security and constructive convergence in the region, especially among Afghans and the cooperation of the two countries in this regard.
Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassem announced last week that Taliban would visit Iran last week and noted the main goal of the talks was to find approaches or facilitators to advance the talks between Afghan groups and the Afghan government. (IRNA)
