Kabul Ready to Enter HIA-Like Deal with Taliban: Ghani

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani has insisted on leadership and ownership of the peace process by Afghans who he said wanted ‘a dignified and stable peace’ in their country.
The president met with a number of foreign countries envoys at his office and discussed with them the country’s current situation and the July presidential election on Tuesday evening, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
Ghani said the national unity government entered a peace agreement with the Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) party and it could do the same with the Taliban under an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led dialogue.
He said terrorism was a common threat the region faced and the role of regional countries and international allies of Afghanistan was important to overcome the threat.
The statement said National Security Advisor HamdullahMohib, who attended the meeting, said foreign countries’ envoys could play a crucial role in strengthening their countries’ relations with Afghanistan. (Pajhwok)
