Elevating Some Districts to Provinces Being Considered: Mohib

KABUL - National Security Advisor Hamdullah Muhib has said the government is considering promotion of some districts meeting the required standards to provinces.
Mohib met with elders, influential persons and protesters from the Muqor district of Ghazni province, a statement from the National Security Council said on Saturday.
The NSA briefed the visiting delegation about security situation, economic development, access to basic facilities, health, education and elevation of Muqor district to the province level.
According to the statement, the visiting delegation welcomed the government’s strategies for economic development and others.
Mohib hailed the civil demands of the protesters and said the government was considering the plan to elevate some districts to provinces, which meet the required criteria.
Last week, residents of the Muqor district blocked the busy Kabul-Kandahar highway, asking the government to upgrade the district into a new province.
Mohammad Arif Noori, the Ghazni governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the protestors had reopened the road after a week of closure.
He said the demand of Muqor people had been shared with the central government. However, the gubernatorial spokesman said nothing about Kabul’s response. (Pajhwok)
