US Deputy Envoy Briefs Danesh on Latest Qatar Talks

KABUL - US deputy ambassador to Afghanistan Karen Decker briefed second-vice president Sarwar Danesh about the latest round of peace negotiations between her country and Taliban representatives in Qatar.
A statement from Danesh media’s office to Pajhwok Afghan News said the deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy held a meeting with the second vice-President.
It added Decker offered report of recent progress in the peace negotiations between the US and Taliban representatives in Doha.
The statement further said transparency and informing all sides particularly the people of Afghanistan and civil society insinuations in the peace process came up for discussion at the meeting.
Second vice president Sarwar Danesh stressed that political system, Constitution, civil society organizations, freedom of speech and human rights were fundamental demands of the people of Afghanistan as there was general consensus in this regard.
Danish added the NUG as representative of the people of Afghanistan was committed to lasting peace in the country and preserving achievements of the 18 years.
The US deputy ambassador Karen Decker also said that achievements of the past 18 years were the result of the sacrifices and cooperation of the people of Afghanistan against terrorism and their concerns this regard were considerable.
At the meeting, Sarwar Danesh said in order to reach lasting peace, the Afghan government has the same stance as of international cooperators and stressed that the peace negotiations should be led and owned by the Afghan government and people.
Danish said continuation of democracy was vital for the people of Afghanistan and all Afghans were on the same page about the democratic system in their country.(Pajhwok)
