KABUL - Khalilzad was expected to hold the sixth round of peace talks with Taliban representatives in Qatar on April 15.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also said that the negotiations in the Gulf country would take place on Monday (yesterday).
For his part, Khalilzad wrote on his Twitter account: “Don’t believe reports that I’m in Doha. I’m enjoying a windy spring day in DC.”
Two days back, Khalilzad met the president of Uzbekistan and other officials. They discussed ways of achieving and sustaining peace.
He tweeted: “Good to see the Turkish president’s chief advisor in Washington today. Appreciate Turkey’s commitment to Afghanistan and its willingness to support the Afghan peace process is welcome.”
On the other hand, some media reports said that women would also be part of the Taliban delegation in the sixth round of talks.
However, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid rejected the reports as wrong, saying that no decision had been made yet in this regard.
Both Taliban and Khalilzad have not yet commented on when the next round of talks will happen. (Pajhwok)
