Shanahan, Khalilzad  Talk Afghan Peace Process

KABUL - Acting US Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan and America’s Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad have discussed ongoing talks for lasting peace in Afghanistan.
“Always great to see Ambassador Khalilzad here at the Pentagon to discuss the ongoing talks for lasting peace, we continue to work together to set the conditions for a political settlement that will end the war in Afghanistan,” the Pentagon chief tweeted.
“Secretary Pompeo, Khalilzad and I are aligned on a way forward to achieve the objectives of President Donald Trump’s South Asia Strategy,” Shanahan wrote.
US and Taliban negotiators have held several rounds of peace talks in Qatar so far. An Afghan delegation was also expected to meet this week with Taliban negotiators in Doha but the meeting was canceled. (Pajhwok)
